JACOB WHITFIELD

Jacob Whitfield is the newest secret sauce that makes our 
Production Team thrive!

Our Employee Spotlight series aims to highlight the many talented individuals who work at Elite Tape.

Nearly a year ago, Jake joined Elite Tape after working for several years in the construction industry.  Handling framing, tile, flooring and detailed trim work, he brought the perfect experience and attention to detail to our Elite Tape team. “I love new challenges and the variety of machinery I get to work with.  I also love learning new things and I have learned SO MUCH from Manuel, our Production Manager.”

In his free time Jake enjoys watching sports, lowering his golf handicap (good luck!) and spending time with his family and friends. 
 

When asked what advice he might give his younger self, with zero hesitation, he said “Hard work pays off” and “Never back down from a challenge.”  Sounds like he wrote the Elite Tape mottos….  

Jake is a new father to a son born in October.  Carter is our first Elite Tape baby and he is a cutie!  Knowing how much he is enjoying his son and how seriously he takes fatherhood and wants children to be cared for, Jake did not surprise us with his choice of favorite charity.

In celebration of Jake Whitfield and his wonderful year and expected future contributions to our company, Elite Tape will be contributing $1,000 to his favorite charity TOYS FOR TOTS.
 

    INTRODUCING INDUSTRY BEST TAPES 

What is Flash Tape?

The Aerospace industry is one of the largest industries requiring the utmost level of precision and reliability. Every step in the process needs to be seamless and accurate. An essential technology to aid in these needs is Flashbreak Tape. 

Flashbreak Tape, also commonly referred to as Flash Tape and Flashbreaker® Tape, is a versatile product that has become a critical component in the aerospace industry. Over the years, it has gained widespread popularity for its extensive use in manufacturing high-quality parts. 

The term ‘flash’ is common in molding and coating applications and refers to the unwanted extra material around edges – mold leak, overspray, etc. Hence, the name ‘flash break’ refers to the ability of the tape to be over-coated, sprayed, or painted, then removed cleanly, taking the ‘flash’ with it presenting a sharp, clean edge – even after a high temperature curing cycle.  Imagine this as a high temperature, super tough, ultra-high performance painter’s masking tape.

Flashbreak Tape is a high-strength polyester film that has a specially formulated silicone pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) on one side. The adhesive bonds well to a variety of surfaces, and removes cleanly, even after exposure to high heat, pressure, and a variety of chemicals. The result is a material with excellent mechanical properties that can withstand extreme temperatures and harsh conditions. The tape is also highly flexible, making it ideal for wrapping around complex shapes or irregular surfaces.

These tapes are commonly used in the molding of wing sections, propellers, and many other Aerospace components.  Interestingly this type of molding is also commonly used for other hi-tech composite applications such as the shells for Formula 1 cars and racing yachts.
 

When selecting the correct Flashbreak Tape for your application, there are several factors to consider, including temperature range, mold surfaces, mechanical properties, resin types, etc.
